Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve to oficjalna nazwa parku, który właściwie nie jest parkim w potocznym tego słowa znaczeniu. To teren na którym jest 7 mil ścieżek, chodząc po których możemy podziwiać dziko rosnące (kwitnące) maki. Aby maki kwitły zgodnie z naturą nie ma tam żadnego sztucznego nawodnienia. Dlatego też nie każdego roku można podziwiać niezliczoną ilość kwitnących maków kalifornijskich. Myśmy czekali kilka lat, aby trafić na “mokry” rok. Gdy tylko przeczytałem że maki kwitną, zaraz w najbliższy weekend pojechaliśmy na spacer po polach makowych. Chętnych do oglądania kwitnących maków było naprawdę wielu. Wielu też z nich zatrzymało się potem na obiad w Lancaster, pobliskim miasteczku, które zaprasza na smaczne posiłki w kilku miejscowych restauracjach. Prawie każdy z przebywających tu przyjezdnych miał aparat fotograficzny w ręku i szukał tylko odpowiedniego miejsca dla kolejnego zdjęcia. Ja sam zrobiłem tam kilkadziesiąt zdjęć, bo taka okazja, aby zobaczyć równocześnie kwitnące maki w tak dużych ilościach może nie trafić się przez następne kilka lat.
